Congratulations to John Land on securing a complete disallowance of a controverted New York Workers' Compensation claim involving an alleged left shoulder injury.

Effective 8/1/25, the Board will require providers to submit CMS-1500 universal billing forms to payers electronically, through a Board  approved electronic submission partner. If the Board receives a paper CMS-1500 on or after 8/1/25, it will be placed in the Board file, but the Board will not act on it or enforce payment. Payers may deny payment.

If a payer receives a paper CMS-1500 on or after 8/1/25, the proper way to deny payment on that basis is to issue an EOB to the provider. DO NOT FILE A C-8.1B if the objection is solely based on paper vs. electronic filing. Reference codes CARC16/RARC N34 to indicate that the bill was not submitted electronically. Following such a denial, the provider must resubmit the denied bill(s) within 120 days of the date of treatment in order to be reimbursed.

The Board is holding webinars on CMS-1500 throughout July 2025 and is hosting a Q & A session on 7/25/25 from 12 – 1pm EST. Register on the Board website.
